Join the Seattle Epidemiologic Research and Information Center (ERIC), a research center within the VA Puget Sound Health Care System (HCS), dedicated to enhancing Veteran health outcomes through high-quality epidemiologic research. The Seattle ERIC is part of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Research and Development (ORD) Cooperative Studies Program (CSP), an award-winning and internationally recognized program with a national research network.
The Seattle ERIC is hiring a full-time Research Operations Program Manager (GS-11 or 12, compensation commensurate with experience and training/education) to support the Center’s research operations.
This position is based at the VA Puget Sound HCS in Seattle, WA and is not eligible for remote work.
KEY DUTIES
§ With the Associate Center Director (ACD)-Research Operations, supports and manages research operations for a large, complex, and dynamic center, including developing and implementing operational processes, procedures, and products in collaboration with Center teams and the Program.
§ Collaborates with relevant stakeholders to manage Center resources, track research funding and FTEEs, and oversee non-profit and contracting processes.
§ Serves as an interim research project manager on newly assigned studies and initiatives and assists with related activities and special projects at the Center and Program levels as needed.
§ With Center leadership, participates in strategic planning and implementation of policies, best practices, and systems to meet the Center’s research goals and mission; identifies opportunities to expand or shift course to remain a competitive research center and to ensure the success of Center research projects and initiatives.
§ Fosters collaborations on research best practices across the Center and the Program by participating and leading committees and working groups.
§ Directly and indirectly manages staff, projects, and deliverables, may supervise employees.
§ Manages and supports all aspects of the Center’s staffing and professional development, including hiring, training, and employee appreciation.
§ Works with research project leads to inspire and motivate employees; identifies potential challenges and points of friction and works to find solutions to maximize employee engagement, productivity, and efficiency.
§ Works with team leads to integrate quality into all aspects of research operations, including developing and maintaining process documents.
§ Stays current on Federal, VA, ORD, CSP, and local VA policies and regulations related to research, privacy, data sharing, and public access; collaborates on special projects as needed with the Quality/Regulatory Manager and others.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
§ Minimum of a bachelors-level degree in a scientific or related field
o Note any education outside the United States needs to be evaluated through a foreign education evaluation agency service at the candidate’s expense.
§ Minimum of 5 years of full-time, successful research management experience.
§ Proven record of leadership, team building, and project management in a research environment.
§ Strong understanding of epidemiologic research design and methodology, as well as research concepts, best practices, procedures, and human subjects regulatory requirements.
§ Self-starter with demonstrated ability to lead and manage complex research support and operations projects; adept at troubleshooting, problem-solving, critical thinking, and adapting to evolving priorities and timelines.
§ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups with a wide range of professional backgrounds and expertise, and to understand and clearly communicate complex research regulations and procedures.
§ Strong organizational and time-management skills, with demonstrated ability to multitask and maintain attention to detail.
§ Proficient in standard Microsoft Office products and general office communications and strategies.
Preferred
§ Masters-level degree in a scientific or related-field
§ 10 or more years of fulltime successful research management experience
§ Experience with data sharing and open science principles and practices
