Overview
CDPH is currently hiring a Public Health Medical Officer III (Epidemiology) within our Center for Infectious Diseases, Division of Communicable Disease Control! In this role, you will provide infectious disease consultation, develop and implement epidemiologic response preparedness for possible bioterrorism (BT) events, and conduct general communicable disease investigations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develops expertise in the clinical and public health recognition, response, and management of bioterrorist (BT) threat diseases and other infectious disease threats such as anthrax, botulism, brucellosis, Burkholderia infections, plague, tularemia, Ebola, and other emerging infectious diseases
- Provides consultation to local public health departments, health care systems, emergency management, and law enforcement in evaluation and management of urgent disease reports suspected of BT
- Provides technical consultation for planning, training, infection control measures, and risk communication related to possible BT agents
- Responds to and investigates infectious disease cases and incidents including, but not limited to, those that may be BT-related
- Leads a team to plan, organize, and conduct field investigations of infectious disease outbreaks, including clusters of food and water-borne diseases, respiratory diseases, and unexplained critical illnesses and deaths
- Responds to public health emergencies by providing epidemiology and surveillance support in an emergency operations center, regional office, or local health department
- Assists in planning and participates in the development and implementation of plans, training, and exercises for bioterrorism incidents and food and waterborne outbreak emergencies
- Represents the Branch in infectious disease surveillance and epidemiology functions in exercises with outside agencies
Telework Policy and Residency Requirement:
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework permitted is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change, consistent with CDPH’s Telework Program. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200. Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in the job offer being rescinded.
