South Coast Aquatics is seeking a responsible, attentive, and safety-focused Lifeguard to monitor aquatic facilities, prevent accidents, respond to emergencies, and provide a safe environment for swimmers and program participants.
The Lifeguard will maintain continuous surveillance of designated pool areas, enforce safety rules, respond promptly to incidents, and provide emergency assistance when necessary. The ideal candidate will remain calm under pressure, communicate effectively, and demonstrate strong judgment and situational awareness.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain continuous and attentive surveillance of assigned pool and aquatic areas.
Enforce all facility safety rules, policies, and procedures.
Prevent accidents by identifying and addressing unsafe behavior or hazardous conditions.
Respond quickly and appropriately to aquatic emergencies.
Perform water rescues and provide first aid, CPR, and AED assistance when required.
Activate emergency response procedures and contact emergency services when necessary.
Conduct routine safety inspections of the pool area, deck, equipment, and surrounding facilities.
Report unsafe conditions, injuries, incidents, and equipment concerns to appropriate supervisors.
Complete required incident and accident reports accurately and promptly.
Maintain professional communication with swimmers, athletes, parents, staff, and facility visitors.
Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and safe pool deck.
Ensure rescue equipment and emergency supplies remain accessible and properly maintained.
Assist with opening and closing procedures as assigned.
Participate in required safety drills, training sessions, and staff meetings.
Provide courteous assistance to patrons while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
Follow all facility emergency action plans and operational procedures.
Perform additional aquatic safety or facility-support duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Current lifeguard certification from a recognized organization.
Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
Strong swimming and water-rescue abilities.
Ability to remain alert and focused for extended periods.
Ability to respond appropriately during stressful or emergency situations.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Dependable attendance and punctuality.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Must be physically capable of performing essential lifeguarding duties, including swimming, climbing, reaching, lifting, and performing water rescues.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous lifeguarding experience.
Experience working at competitive swimming, aquatic, recreation, or sports facilities.
Experience working with children, teenagers, athletes, or families.
Water Safety Instructor or equivalent aquatic certification.
Additional emergency-response or aquatic-safety training.

Work Environment
This is an on-site aquatic position involving regular exposure to swimming pools, water, outdoor and indoor environments, varying temperatures, and potentially high-noise environments.
Lifeguards may be required to work extended periods while standing, walking, or sitting in designated surveillance areas. The position may also require swimming, climbing, bending, lifting, and responding rapidly to emergencies.
Schedule
Scheduling may vary according to South Coast Aquatics’ program and facility needs. Availability for some combination of weekday, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts may be required.
