The salary for this position will start at $180,000 and will be commensurate with experience.

Who We Are: Health Research Inc., (HRI) is a private not for profit 501 (c)(3) corporation that contributes to the health and well-being of the people of New York State by complementing and enabling the strategic public health goals of the New York State Department of Health (DOH), Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center (RPCCC), and other health-related entities.

HRI provides best-in-class resource administration for stakeholders and programs related to the work and priorities of the Department of Health and its other partners. HRI does this through the provision of knowledge, expertise, funding guidance, and fiduciary oversight of sponsored program funding for public health and research programs in concert with community partnerships.

What You’ll Do: The Executive Director will shape the future of HRI by providing creative leadership and strategic direction, and inspiring excellence among the organization’s dedicated professionals.  This individual will build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, identify opportunities for increased innovation and growth, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.  The Executive Director will have overall responsibility for all aspects of organization under the HRI Board of Directors, including but not limited to Finance, Human Resources, Information Systems, Sponsored Programs, Technology Transfer, Contracts and Operations and Subcontracts.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and ten years of experience in the direction of a public health, health, human services, community based or other related nonprofit organization or major program; OR an Associate’s degree in a related field and twelve years of such experience; OR fourteen years of such experience. The years of experience must have included experience with: Federal Uniform Guidance and application of regulations contained therein, handling of highly confidential information and materials, budget management, including budget preparation, analysis and decision making. The years of experience must also have included planning, delegation and facilitation of activities. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

The incumbent should have the ability to foster a positive team orientated work environment and have a proven track record of establishing and developing creative collaborative working relationships with public health professionals and external business stake-holders. A robust background in financial and operational management in a not-for-profit environment is strongly preferred, as well as with managing complex budgets with various funding streams and different reporting requirements.  The ideal candidate has knowledge and experience with community health education, prevention and primary care programs. An understanding of basic research and laboratory science and public health laboratory functions and operations is highly valued. A working knowledge of the operations of New York State agencies and government and experience in a unionized environment is very desirable.

Conditions of Employment

Management/Confidential position.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel, up to 25% of the time, will be required.

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.
