As a Healthcare Program Consultant 1 within the Division of Epidemiology at the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a cross-team liaison to state and local public health agencies, medical providers, hospitals, laboratories, and community-based organizations requesting confidential health information and providing technical assistance daily while seeking information to improve the healthcare of a diverse group by ensuring compliance with HIPAA.
  • Conduct field investigations and follow-up of potential cases of HIV/AIDS as assigned individually and collaboratively. Travel may be required within the Metro Atlanta area.
  • Collect data through electronic medical records, case report forms, and record searches from other jurisdictions to ensure that the data collected is complete and accurate.
  • Maintain an understanding of all data collection processes with an emphasis on ATTENTION TO DETAIL.
  • Input data into our enhanced HIV/AIDS Reporting System (eHARS).
  • Establish, collaborate, and maintain effective relationships with assigned providers and facilities. Maintain communication with key contacts and update the HIV Surveillance Unit for changes to the facility.
  • Collaborate on a semi-annual project known as the Routine Interstate Duplicate Review (RIDR) to exchange patient health data with state health agencies to resolve and deduplicate databases across jurisdictions to ensure quality statistical data for our national data set for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
  • Participate in training sessions to stay updated on project objectives, trends, and methods.
  • Attend surveillance staff meetings with our surveillance staff and supervisors and contribute to surveillance unit meetings, by communicating surveillance data collection issues and challenges to the wider group of the unit.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of experience performing work related to area of assignment;
OR
Six (6) years of experience performing work related to area of assignment;
OR
Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.

Note: Some positions may require licensure.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in HIV or STD surveillance activities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of STDs/HIV/AIDS situations and trends, including social, economic, and gender challenges.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Teams).
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize, and exercise good judgment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to communicate ideas and information effectively, both orally and in writing.
