Responsibilities: The Department of Health Sciences at DePaul University in Chicago invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position starting September 2025. We seek candidates broadly trained in public health. A PhD or DrPH in public health is preferred. Candidates with a PhD in a related field who focus on public health are also encouraged to apply. Previous teaching experience is preferred.

Our department serves a diverse student body of over 500 undergraduate students pursuing a BS degree with concentrations in ‘Bioscience’ or ‘Public Health Sciences’, and over 40 students in the Master of Public Health program with concentrations in ‘Community Health Practice’ or ‘Social Epidemiology’. A Master in Gerontology is in development. Our faculty train students to address individual and community health challenges using a collaborative approach that combines natural and social scientific perspectives. Applicants must have a strong commitment to educating a diverse student body and an interest in contributing to a multidisciplinary department. Our faculty collaborate with external partners in Chicago and beyond, as well as across university departments. Candidates whose research or teaching includes active engagement with community partners are encouraged to apply. Start-up funds are available.

Teaching responsibilities will include development and instruction of public health courses and new courses aligned with the candidate’s expertise, as well as core undergraduate courses in the department. Faculty typically teach 6 courses per academic year (spread across 3 quarters) and are eligible for a pre-tenure research leave. Applicants are expected to develop an active and productive research program that involves students and results in peer-reviewed publications. Applicants are encouraged to seek internal and external funding to support their research. Service to the department, college, and university also is expected.

The College of Science and Health is the third largest college at DePaul, enrolling over 3,000 students. The college includes programs in health sciences, biology, neuroscience, nursing, psychology, chemistry and biochemistry, occupational therapy, environmental science and studies, mathematics, physics and astrophysics, and speech language pathology.
