Position: One full-time, tenure-track assistant or associate position in the Institute of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, National Taiwan University starting August 2025

1. Job Summary

Institute of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine is the oldest institute at the College of Public Health of National Taiwan University. Professors in our institute have made longstanding contributions in the important fields of infectious diseases and noncommunicable diseases. We recruit outstanding students from both domestic and international backgrounds and offer MS and Ph.D. degrees in the fields of epidemiology and preventive medicine. We provide quality international education and training and offer opportunities for specialized and interdisciplinary research. This allows students to learn quantitative science and empirical research methodology to solve pressing public health issues. Our strengths include a comprehensive and international faculty, great access to national health datasets and human biobank data, strong and long-term collaboration with faculty of biostatistics and health data analytics, and close tie with central and local health decision-making units.

The Institute of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine is seeking full-time professors (including assistant professors and associate professors) within the fields of epidemiology and preventive medicine. Candidates with research expertise and a passion for teaching in the areas of disease distribution and etiology, disease prevention and control, population health translation, precision public health, and other related fields are very welcome.

The newly recruited faculty member in our institute will not only teach at the masters and doctoral level courses, but also have the opportunity to collaborate with the Department of Public Health as a jointly appointed professor and to participant in undergraduate level of public health education. We especially welcome teachers with experiences in teaching in English. In addition to the basic salary, new faculty of NTU will receive a competitive package of startup funds. Outstanding newly recruited faculty will also be eligible for the following additional allowances and benefits.

(1) At NTU, the ‘Newly Hired Full-time Teacher Additional Allowance’ ranges from 40,000 to 80,000 NT dollars per month for a maximum of three years.

(2) The Institute will also assist outstanding teachers in applying for various competitive awards including the Ministry of Education Yushan Scholars and Yushan Youth Scholars, National Science Council Emerging Scholars, Outstanding Young Scholars, and International Outstanding Young Scholar programs.

The rank and salary of the selected candidate will depend upon candidate’s qualifications.

2. Required Qualifications

Minimum requirements include an earned doctoral degree in the relevant fields from a domestically or internationally recognized university. Those with more than 1-year experience of teaching and research in relevant field are preferred.

(5) A list of selected publications, including no more than two full-text copies of representative publications within five years (the date after August 1, 2020); and no more than ten full-text copies of referenced publications within 7 years (the date after August 1, 2018).

(6) 3 recommendation letters.

(7) The teaching and research plans based on the Institute of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine curriculum.

(8) Other information that helps the search committee better understand the applicant’s qualification. (For example: courses taught in the past 3 years and results of teaching evaluation, list of research projects and important awards, etc.)

About College of Public Health, National Taiwan University

The College of Public Health, National Taiwan University (NTUCPH, or CPH; 國立台灣大學公共衛生學院) is the first college of public health in Taiwan. Experienced enormous growth in size and complexity, particularly after the early 1990s, CPH currently has nearly 60 full-time faculty members, around 700 students, and more than 3,000 alumni around the world. In 2017, NTUCPH became the first in Asia to receive accreditation by Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).

The institutional predecessor of National Taiwan University (NTU) was Taihoku (also known as Taipei) Imperial University, founded in 1928 by the Japanese colonial government. After World War II, Taihoku Imperial University was renamed as National Taiwan University. In the 2015 QS World University Rankings, which was published in September 15, 2015, NTU was ranked top 70.

The predecessor of CPH was the Institute of Tropical Medicine, established in 1939. In 1993, CPH was found as the eighth college established in NTU. Currently, CPH has one department (Department of Public Health), six institutes (Institute of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, Institute of Health Data Analytics and Statistics, Institute of Health Policy and Management, Institute of Health Behaviors and Community Sciences, Institute of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, and Institute of Food Safety and Health), one professional degree program (Master of Public Health degree program), two research-based global health degree programs (MS and PhD in Global Health), and several research centers. In total, CPH provides a Bachelor’s degree program (BS), seven master’s degree programs (MS and MPH), and five doctoral degree programs (PhD).
