Job Description and Duties

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by promoting health and wellness to improve health outcomes and reduce health disparities through prevention, management, and team-based approaches focused on chronic diseases, long-haulers, and their associated risk factors.

The candidate works under the direction of the Research Scientist Supervisor I (RSS I), Chief, Health Information and Statistics Section. The Health Program Specialist I (HPS I) serves as a highly skilled, technical program consultant for cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention and treatment. This position will actively research and seek federal grant opportunities and present them to CDCB leadership for consideration. Upon approval from leadership, the HPS I will mobilize and coordinate grant development teams and preparation of materials for requisite approvals from the Director’s Office, California Health and Human Services, and the Department of Finance. The HPS I will also coordinate and schedule CVD prevention meetings, develop meeting agendas and minutes, and package documents for management review and approval. The HPS I will review policies and develop CVD fact sheets with an emphasis on women’s health and CVD.
