Responsibilities

The Program Research Specialist II, will work within the Bureau of Environmental Exposure Investigation (BEEI) in the Center for Environmental Health. The incumbent will join a team of public health professionals to work on the ATSDR cooperative agreement entitled, “New York State’s Cooperative Agreement Partnership to Reduce Environmental Exposures”.

The incumbent will compile, work with, and interpret environmental data; and execute and track public education and outreach activities. The incumbent will analyze and interpret geographic data in proximity to environmentally contaminated sites and prepare the appropriate documentation for site files. The incumbent will perform data entry activities and utilize applications to evaluate geographic and environmental data. The incumbent will participate in, and evaluate the effectiveness of, outreach and health education activities and track and report on technical assistance and health education activities. The incumbent will perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, geology, engineering, geochemistry, industrial hygiene, or environmental sciences or a related field and two years of research experience in the collection and analysis of data; OR an Associate’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics/Statistics or a related field and four years of such experience; OR six years of such experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of such experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications

·       At least two years of professional work experience with environmental programs or related field.

·       Experience reviewing environmental data.

·       Experience with environmental remediation/hazardous waste site projects and investigations.

·       Experience with Microsoft Excel, Access, or similar data management application.

·       Experience with using Google Earth Pro, ArcGIS, or a similar geographic information system.

 

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel, up to 10% of the time, will be required.

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.
