About the Role
The Director of Patient Access leads and strengthens partnerships that improve healthcare access for individuals with bleeding disorders. In this role, you will evaluate, negotiate, and build relationships with community leaders, payers, and Hemophilia Treatment Centers (HTCs), driving innovative solutions that enhance access to care. You will provide project leadership and expertise in researching, analyzing, and implementing NBDF’s payer and access strategies, policies, and programs. This position also plays a pivotal role in addressing complex issues related to the administration and operations of existing and potential healthcare providers, offering guidance through policy development, education, and best practice implementation.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Policy Development
- Collaborate with the SVP of Access and Public Policy to design and implement NBDF’s payer relations strategic plan.
- Conduct research and analysis to develop strategies, policies, and recommendations for healthcare access and legislative or regulatory changes.
- Manage and direct the department’s strategic planning and annual budgeting processes.
- Design and oversee evaluative studies to support policy and program decisions on emerging issues in healthcare access and delivery.
Stakeholder Engagement and Advocacy
- Build and maintain partnerships with payers, Hemophilia Treatment Centers (HTCs), and community leaders to foster collaboration.
- Represent NBDF at payer conferences, trade organization meetings, and advocacy events to promote HTCs as Centers of Excellence.
- Collaborate with decision-makers from payers, brokers, consultants, employers, and government agencies to advance NBDF’s mission.
- Participate in federal and state public payer initiatives as directed by the SVP of Public Policy and Access.
Program Oversight and Operations
- Oversee pilot programs developed under the Comprehensive Care Sustainability Collaborative (CCSC), ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with agreements.
- Supervise the development of outreach materials and other communication efforts led by the CCSC communication committee.
- Provide leadership to HTCs and other stakeholders on reporting requirements and compliance with payer standards.
- Address patient- and HTC-specific issues, providing case-specific guidance and insights.
Education and Event Management
- Educate providers, physicians, and insurance administrators on NBDF policies, billing procedures, and access strategies.
- Lead the planning and execution of NBDF’s annual Insurance and Reimbursement Conference.
- Draft, edit, and review educational materials, white papers, and presentations for accuracy and consistency, and clarity.
Compliance and Reporting
- Stay informed of 340B program requirements and ensure alignment with current healthcare billing and reporting standards.
- Identify and address access challenges arising from marketplace changes, disseminating relevant updates to HTCs and community stakeholders.
- Adhere to all internal reporting requirements, including weekly updates and financial documentation.
What You Bring:
To qualify for this unique opportunity, our ideal candidate should have the following experience and education:
- A Bachelor’s degree in public policy, administration, business administration, or a related field; a graduate degree is a plus.
- At least 8 years of experience in public policy analysis, education, administration, and/or government relations/affairs, with a focus on healthcare or payer relations.
- At least 3 years of experience in 340B operations, health practice management, and insurance billing/reporting.
- Strong research, policy analysis, writing, and oral communication skills, with the ability to distill complex information and present it concisely.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including consumers, advocates, government officials, and remote teams.
- Ability to assess and understand the long-term impact of policy decisions and strategies in the healthcare space.
- Demonstrated experience working with federal healthcare programs, commercial payers/providers, and managed care organizations.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite, internet research, and database management systems.
- Knowledge of healthcare policy and experience with hemophilia and/or blood disorders is a plus.

Where You Will Work:
This position is a remote and open to candidates located anywhere in the U.S. Applicants should be comfortable working remotely with a team dispersed across the country. This role requires some travel, typically 2-3 times a month, which includes overnight events and to our annual Bleeding Disorders Conference.

Compensation:
We have carefully considered industry benchmarks, the experience required for this position, and internal salary comparisons to determine the appropriate salary range for this role. For this position, NBDF has set a starting base salary range $85,000-$100,000 and it is non-negotiable due to our company’s commitment to maintaining internal pay equity. This approach ensures that we maintain a fair and consistent compensation structure across the organization.
