Responsibilities
The Public Health Specialist I will work with a multidisciplinary team of program staff, state and local partners, and school district personnel to provide support toward expanding an existing DOH program and implement it statewide. The incumbent will provide assistance to higher level staff of the School Environmental Health Program, which provides schools with knowledge and awareness of best practices in environmental health. The goals of the program are to improve indoor air quality, reduce virus transmission, improve the health and learning of school-aged children, and improve working conditions for other building occupants. As part of an existing team, the incumbent will be responsible for assisting with duties related to the New York State School Environmental Health Program: work with existing program staff, Steering Committee partners, K-12 school staff, and other NYSDOH staff to implement the program statewide; communicate with K-12 schools both on a routine basis and when environmental health concerns arise; track schools’ progress with the program; assist other staff with the logistical planning of program events such as regional seminars, tabling events, and conferences; and other appropriate related duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in a related field; OR an Associates degree in a related field and two years of experience in a public health, human services or health related program/organization field; OR four years of such experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Degree in public health or a closely related field. Experience working with K-12 schools. Knowledge of various environmental health topics. Experience with promoting programs or conducting program outreach with various audiences. Experience using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Tableau. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, as well as excellent written and verbal skills.
Conditions of Employment
Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Travel, up to 10%, will be required.
This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.
