Overview
The School of Public & Population Health (SPPH) at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX, is currently accepting applications for an Associate Professor/Professor & Chair for its Department of Epidemiology.
Minimum qualifications: PhD, MD, or equivalent degree, eight to ten years of related experience, demonstrated familiarity with academic administration in their specialty field and comprehensive understanding of an academic environment.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in epidemiology and/or health services research.
- Demonstrated experience with graduate education including mentoring and teaching.
- Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of an academic environment, and the practice of medicine and biomedical research.
- Demonstrated ability to build and sustain collegial relationships with peers, faculty, staff, and students across disciplines.
- Documented expertise in the process of scholarly inquiry and publications, demonstrating ability to support and maintain intellectual growth within an academic environment that emphasizes the securing of research funds.
- Visionary leadership and a philosophical approach focusing on the overall success of the department.
- A commitment to developing programmatic initiatives.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills including a high degree of professionalism and competence in dealing with a variety of individuals.
- Strong interpersonal skills with experience managing multiple programs.
- Strong publication record, research funding and/or potential to secure research funding.
About University of Texas Medical Branch - School of Public & Population Health
The School of Public & Population Health (SPPH) is the newest school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX (located about 50 miles south of Houston on the Texas Gulf Coast). After being accredited as a public health program by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) since 2002, SPPH successfully transitioned into a fully accredited school of public health in December 2023. Our school houses five (5) departments: Bioethics & Health Humanities, Biostatistics & Data Science, Epidemiology, Global Health, and Population Health & Health Disparities. SPPH's CEPH-accredited degrees include 5 MPH concentrations (Bioethics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Generalist, Public Health Practice), 3 Masters degrees (MA in Bioethics & Health Humanities, MS in Aerospace Medicine, and MS in Biostatistics), and 3 PhD programs (Bioethics & Health Humanities, Population Health Sciences, Rehabilitation Sciences).
