Overview

This position supports the CDPH mission and strategic plan by managing the activities of the Disease Intervention Mentorship, Training, and Response Unit (DI Unit) and capacitating CDPH and local health jurisdictions (LHJs) to be able to effectively respond to infectious disease outbreaks and other urgent public health emergencies, while supporting California’s public health workforce and health equity goals.

The candidate works under the general direction of the Workforce Training and Disease Intervention Section Chief (HPM II) within the Office of Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response (OIDPR).

In the case of a public health emergency, this position may be asked to redirect to serve rotations in emergency staffing roles aligned with their classification level.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate’s relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Experience as a case investigator or contact tracer.
Experience with training, coaching and mentoring.
Language fluency in both English and Spanish
Develop working relationships and collaborate across multiple agencies.
Strong communication skills and the ability to produce reports, documentation, and presentations to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.
Public speaking skills to facilitate meetings during live virtual trainings and presentations.
Ability to deploy to the field to respond to a public health emergency (if needed).
Critical thinking skills to understand project goals, rapid changes to circumstances and identify processes that are contributing to or hindering success.
Judgment in knowing when to take progressive action or escalate issues.
Interact in a non-judgmental manner with culturally diverse populations experiencing a wide range of social conditions.
Experience in use of CalCONNECT and CalREDIE, or other data management software.
