Overview
The Office of Oral Health (OOH) has a mission to improve the oral health of all Californians through prevention, education, and organized community efforts. To achieve these goals, the OOH is providing strategic advice and leadership to oral health stakeholders throughout the state, building oral health workforce capacity and promoting disease prevention.
The Research Scientist I (RS I) Epidemiology/Biostatistics (Epi/Bio) works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team within the Office of Oral Health (OOH) and contributes to impactful epidemiological studies of oral health while considering the social, cultural, and environmental determinants of oral diseases. The incumbent applies epidemiological and biostatistical methods, expertise in oral health surveillance data, efficiency with successful data dissemination and visualization, and project management skills in support of the 2018-2028 California Oral Health Plan. The incumbent also serves as an epidemiological consultant of relevant oral health data for measuring key results to inform program efforts and accountability. Up to 5% In-State travel may be required to attend site visits, off-site meetings, seminars, and conferences.

In addition to evaluating each candidate’s relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
Applied experience in epidemiology and public health surveillance
Experience disseminating and translating data findings to diverse audiences utilizing data visualization platforms or dashboards
Advanced biostatistical knowledge and applied experience with various statistical software systems
Commitment to ethical scientific research principles
Demonstrated experience interacting effectively and achieving results with internal team members and external partners
Ability to work well both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team
Listens to the concerns of others to initiate creative solutions
