Wake County Health and Human Services is looking for a Bilingual HIV/STD Community Testing Counselor to join the HIV/STD Community Health Team! The HIV/STD Community Health Team supports the HIV and Sexually Transmitted Diseases/Hepatitis C (HIV/STD/Hep C) Community Program within Wake County Health and Human Services Department – Preventive Division.

Ways the Community Counselor will serve their clients:

  • Provides confidential, compassionate, non-judgmental, client-centered HIV/STD/Hep C counseling and testing to individuals seeking services at community/clinic testing sites and events
  • Conducts blood draws/specimen collection, laboratory packaging and transport of biohazard and urine specimens for HIV, syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and Hep C, in accordance with testing protocols
  • Applies and provides individual HIV/STD/PrEP education, limited STD Treatment, and linkage to care
  • Documents client registration information in medical record and laboratory websites
    Records tests and results in client medical records and provides results and additional counseling to clients coming back for results and treatment
  • Participate with teams and community screenings in community outreach
  • Provide data collection and narrative reports as required
  • Participates in staff meetings and staff development
  • Provide culturally competent HIV pre-test counseling and give test results with appropriate post-test counseling

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • No specific experience required
  • CMA/LPN certification/license strongly preferred
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted
