This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by promoting health and wellness and improving state health outcomes by advancing protective measures and reducing risk.

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by promoting health and wellness and improving state health outcomes by advancing protective measures and reducing risk.

Under general direction of the Chief, Food and Drug Branch (Branch Chief), the Chief, Food and Drug Section (Section Chief) of the Drug and Medical Device Compliance and Enforcement Section (DMDCES) plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and evaluates activities of the drug and medical device program related to development and implementation of drug and medical device quality system inspection standards, as well as drug and medical device compliance and enforcement processes.

This position is designated as a peace officer per California Penal Code 830.3 (f) and (h). This position performs the full range of peace officer duties and responsibilities in the accomplishment of their assignments and must comply with the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (CA POST). During their employment, they are required to carry a firearm and be proficient in its use. Further, must be knowledgeable in the area of use of force, demonstrating appropriate use as prescribed in department policy.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate’s relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Knowledge of current principles and procedures of project planning, design, methodology, analysis, and evaluation.
Proficient knowledge of methods for report preparation; laboratory procedures commonly used with commodities regulated by FDB; State/Federal statutes.
Knowledge of regulations pertaining to the manufacture, labeling, advertising, distribution, and sale of commodities regulated by FDB.
Strong understanding of manufacturing practices and principles; as well as methods commonly used in the manufacture, labeling, distribution, and sale of commodities regulated by FDB.
Knowledge on rules of evidence and investigative and enforcement procedures and techniques; concepts of civil, criminal, and case law.
Legislative processes experience; program budgeting and administration, business and personnel management, training, recruitment, and succession planning.
Management experience.
