Overview

We are looking for a Clinical Payroll Lead to join our team remotely or at HQ in Troy, Michigan, USA. In this role, you will be responsible for owning and optimizing our clinician payroll from end to end. You’ll be the go-to person for all things pay — managing the process, solving discrepancies, rolling out rate changes, and building smarter tools to make payroll faster, easier, and more transparent.

What You’ll Do

. Manage the full payroll cycle for our clinician workforce across multiple states, ensuring all timesheets, hours, and rate data are accurate and processed on time.
. Perform regular audits to catch discrepancies before they impact pay, troubleshoot root causes, and implement preventative fixes.
. Serve as the primary contact for clinician pay questions, providing clear, empathetic, and timely resolutions.
. Process rate changes, pay increases, bonuses, and other adjustments, ensuring they’re implemented accurately and communicated clearly.
. Create and maintain dashboards and reports that surface payroll trends, cost drivers, and workforce patterns for Finance, Ops, and Leadership.
. Partner with Product, Finance, and People Ops to improve payroll workflows, integrate tools, and reduce manual processes.
. Keep payroll processes in line with multi-state labor laws, tax requirements, and classification rules (W-2 and 1099).
. Recommend and implement changes that make payroll more transparent, predictable, and painless for our clinical team.
. Other duties as assigned.

Who You Are:

. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
. 4+ years payroll experience (multi-state preferred), ideally in healthcare or a contractor/contingent workforce environment.
. Track record of accuracy, problem-solving, and process improvement.
. Comfortable with payroll systems (Rippling, Quickbooks, or similar) and advanced spreadsheets.
. Strong communicator — able to explain complex pay issues with compassion and precision to the clinician workforce.
. Startup mindset: resourceful, hands-on, and always looking for ways to do it better.
. Detail-oriented: Having a keen eye for detail and spotting trends and issues through the payroll process and cycle.
