The Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Branch (CLPPB) administers a statewide program that provides a wide and complex array of secondary and primary prevention services to children with lead poisoning, lead exposure or risk of lead exposure.

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by working to protect California children from lead poisoning and the adverse effects from exposure to lead.
The candidate works under the general direction of the of the Public Health Medical Officer (PHMO) III, Chief, Care Management Section (CMS) – Oversight of Contracted Local Health Jurisdictions the Nurse Consultant (NC) II provides complex, difficult, and sensitive nursing and program consultation. The NC II will provide case management review related to children with lead poisoning. The NC II will manage outreach partnerships with other State agencies; oversee quality assurance assessment of local programs; develop and coordinate the training of healthcare staff and program coordinators in the appropriate management of children with lead toxicity. This position involves up to 35% statewide travel with occasional overnight stays (if required).

Desirable Qualifications
In addition to evaluating each candidate’s relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
Experience in public health field nursing and in developing and writing: protocols; guidance manuals; procedures; and policies.
Experience serving on review groups or committees.
Public Health Nursing certification is preferred but not required.
