Overview

Our Radiation Health Physicists help to protect communities across Washington by keeping radioactive air emissions ALARA and ensuring facilities meet the state and federal air emission standards. You will join the Office of Radiation Protection within Environmental Public Health, a team that works to prevent harmful exposure and support healthier environments statewide. Your work ranges from reviewing facility plans and licensing emissions units to conducting on-site inspections and supporting environmental justice efforts through the HEAL Act.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Review and evaluate applications for radioactive air emission units, then draft approvals and operating licenses.
Conduct compliance inspections, including field walk downs, air sampling, documentation review, and follow up on findings.
Review annual emission reports to verify accuracy, completeness, and alignment with regulatory limits.
Provide technical guidance to licensees to help them understand requirements and maintain compliance.
Participate in radiological and all-hazards emergency readiness activities, including trainings, drills, and incident response (emergency response activity would be conducted onsite at the Office of Radiation Protection located in Richland, WA.)
Support general program operations and other assigned work.
