Overview

The Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) is a 501(c)(3) membership organization located in Washington, DC that serves as the voice of accredited academic public health. ASPPH’s 35-person staff both serves and leads more than 130 schools and programs accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) as well as leaders in undergraduate public health education. ASPPH’s mission is to advance academic public health by mobilizing the collective power of its members to drive excellence and innovation in education, research, and practice.

Position Purpose
The Technology Specialist plays a central role in supporting ASPPH’s mission to strengthen its operations through reliable, secure, and innovative use of technology. This position provides end-user support, training, and office operations with the administration and monitoring of enterprise cloud systems. The Technology Specialist ensures staff have the tools, training, and support they need while also safeguarding system reliability, performance, and business continuity.

Primary Responsibilities
In this role, the Technology Specialist will manage a blend of hands-on technical support, systems administration, and operational coordination. The responsibilities below reflect both the daily service needs of staff and the broader technology functions that ensure ASPPH’s infrastructure remains reliable, secure, and effective.

Systems & Software Administration
·        Administer Microsoft Azure Active Directory and related enterprise systems.

·        Configure, maintain, and administer SaaS applications (e.g., Office 365, Salesforce, Slack, Box).

·        Collaborate with the Cloud Engineer and Technology Lead to manage enterprise cloud infrastructure, hosting environments, and website performance.

·        Monitor WiFi, networking, office systems, perform audits, and lead cybersecurity risk assessments.

·        Conduct backups, disaster recovery, and business continuity procedures.

End-User & Customer Support
·        Serve as the first point of contact for technology-related inquiries, managing incoming tickets and requests.

·        Provide Tier I and Tier II troubleshooting and escalate as appropriate.

·        Document solutions and contribute to the organizational knowledge base (Intranet), SOPs, and training materials.

·        Deliver technical training on SaaS applications, computer hardware, audio-visual equipment, and office systems.

Operations & Facilities Support
·        Coordinate with building management and technology contractors to ensure smooth day-to-day office operations.

·        Maintain inventory of technology and office equipment; manage procurement and vendor relations.

·        Assist with the onboarding of new employees, including technology setup, training, and office orientation.

Event & Program Support
·        Provide technical and logistical support for webcasts, virtual conferences, hybrid meetings, and in-person events (minimal travel is required).

·        Assist meeting and events staff with transporting and shipping AV equipment.

·        Edit, post, and recorded meeting programs and sessions.

Web & Application Support, Project Implementation & Innovation
·        Assist with management and updating of content across ASPPH-hosted websites via the WordPress CMS.

·        Provide early-life support for new applications, features, and systems to ensure smooth adoption and service transition.

·        Support onboarding and training of end-users to new tools, features, or updates.

·        Advise on, procure, and implement new technology systems and tools.

·        Support usability testing, quality assurance, and data management for web and application projects.

·        Participate in product rollouts and technology initiatives, ensuring successful delivery and long-term stability.

Education and Minimum Qualifications

·      Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent work experience.

·      Experience: 2+ years of experience providing Tier II technical support and advanced troubleshooting in a professional IT environment.

Skills Needed
·        Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible IT experience, including direct Tier II technical support.

·        Demonstrates advanced technical skills for administering enterprise systems and platform technology solutions.

·        Independently troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues with a focus systems thinking and continual improvement in an agile environment.

·        Hands-on cybersecurity experience, including monitoring, incident response, risk assessments, and implementation of security policies.

·        Experience managing and administering Microsoft Azure services (e.g., user and group management, security policies, integrations).

·        Proven experience configuring, administering, and supporting SaaS applications (e.g., Office 365, Salesforce, Slack, Box).

·        Knowledge of networking fundamentals, computer hardware, and systems administration

·        Experience contributing to or maintaining IT documentation, SOPs, and knowledge bases.

·        Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects independently while meeting deadlines.

·        Exceptional customer service and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical users.

Additional Information
·        Work Locale: The position will be based in the ASPPH’s Washington, DC office

·        Reports To: The position reports to the Director of Customer Success.

·        Manages/Supervises: No supervisory responsibilities.

·        Authority to Work in the US: The individual must be legally eligible to work in the U.S.. ASPPH participates in E-Verify to confirm eligibility.

·        Travel Requirements: The position may involve occasional travel to member institutions and participation in meetings related to the position’s professional responsibilities.

·        Compensation: The position’s compensation level is based on industry salary surveys and the individual’s experience. ASPPH offers a generous benefits package.

·        Position: Full-time, exempt position.
