Overview

The Austin College Public Health Department invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2025. A Ph.D. in Public Health or a related field is required. If the candidate has a doctorate in a related field, then a master’s in public health is necessary. Teaching duties will include three courses per semester, and a one-month January Term course. Expertise should be focused in the areas of Social and Behavioral Health, Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, or Community Health. Those who have specialties in other areas of public health, such as epidemiology and health policy, will not be considered since we already have faculty with expertise in both of those fields. Successful candidates also will be able to teach Introduction to Public Health, and offer other courses based on expertise and the Public Health Department’s and College’s needs.

In addition to a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, a candidate with an active research program is preferred. We also expect the candidate to be enthusiastic about working with colleagues to place students in internships. The College has a program that provides summer research stipends for students involved in research.

The selected candidate will be joining 2 full-time Public Health faculty with expertise in Epidemiology and Health Care Policy and Management, and a Public Health Physician in Residence. Our department is located in the IDEA Center, a three-story science facility including 16 classrooms, 32 advanced laboratory-classrooms, a 108-seat auditorium, and an observatory.

To apply, candidates should include in a single PDF document: a letter of application, CV, copies of graduate transcripts, a one-page statement of teaching philosophy, a one-page description of research interests, and a one-page Diversity and Inclusion Statement indicating how they would address diversity in their teaching, scholarship, and/or service.  This PDF document should be emailed to: PublicHealthSearch@austincollege.edu. Candidates should also request that three letters of references be submitted to the same email address, with candidate’s name in the subject line. Review of applications begins 15 October 2024 and will continue until the position is filled.
