Job Description and Duties
Incumbents in one of these classifications, where a Master’s Degree is required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 2% of their monthly base pay. Those where a Doctoral Degree is a required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 3% of their monthly base pay. Individuals with both a Master’s and Doctoral Degree will be given the best benefit in relation to salary shall only be eligible for only one amount.

 

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by directing federally funded surveillance programs monitoring HIV related risk behaviors in targeted populations and care utilization patterns among HIV-infected persons currently accessing care in California.

The incumbent works under the general direction of the Research Scientist Supervisor (RSS) II, Chief of the Surveillance Section. The Research Scientist (RS) II (Epidemiology/Biostatistics) serves as the lead Research Scientist for the Medical Monitoring Project (MMP) as well as serving in the MMP Data Manager role. The RS II conceives plans, conducts, organizes and directs moderately complex HIV behavioral and clinical surveillance analyses, behavioral research, and epidemiologic and statistical analyses using established guidelines to apply appropriate techniques for survey and other data sources, including HIV surveillance data and Medical Monitoring Project (MMP) data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The RS II is the lead expert on behavioral theory, survey, statistical, and epidemiologic methods relating to medical monitoring data.

Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in the job offer being rescinded.
