Job Description and Duties
Incumbents in one of these classifications, where a Master’s Degree is required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 2% of their monthly base pay. Those where a Doctoral Degree is a required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 3% of their monthly base pay. Individuals with both a Master’s and Doctoral Degree will be given the best benefit in relation to salary shall only be eligible for only one amount.

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by performing a critical role in enhanced Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) surveillance and epidemiology activities to inform public health action and policies.

 

The Covid Control Branch (CCB) coordinates and provides guidance on statewide COVID-19, surveillance, epidemiologic investigations, laboratory testing, and on clinical and infection control issues. The Branch works closely with other Teams to help produce deliverables for CDPH leadership and other stakeholders. The CCB works closely with local health departments, other state teams and agencies, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on COVID-19 surveillance.

 

The Research Scientist III (RS III) will provide expert epidemiologic and statistical support for the coordination, analysis, and surveillance of COVID-19 epidemiologic data. The RS III is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing epidemiology and surveillance studies and analyses to investigate COVID-19 disease.  The RS III has direct responsibility, in collaboration with other CDPH teams, to plan, organize, analyze, interpret and disseminate COVID-19 surveillance information to internal and external stakeholders.

 

The RS III works under the general direction of the Research Scientist Supervisor I (RSS I) of the Epidemiology Unit.

 

The Research Scientist II (RS II) is distinguished from the RS III classification in  complexity of duties and level of supervision received.

 

The RS II works under the general supervision of the Research Scientist Supervisor I, Chief of the Epidemiology Unit.
