Job Description and Duties
This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by advancing the health and well-being of California’s diverse people. Within CDPH, the position supports the Office of School Health, which works to advance health, wellness, and safe in-person instruction for California’s 7.5 million students and staff in the state’s 10,000 TK-12 schools by developing and disseminating scientific guidance and policies; supporting school-based health centers; and facilitating collaboration between state and local education and health officials.

 

The Health Program Specialist I (HPSI) acting as the School Health Program Consultant is responsible for ensuring coordination and communication between and among various CDPH programs including the Injury Violence Prevention Branch (IVPB), Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health (MCAH), and the Office of Oral Health (OOH) participating in school-based health center activities and ensuring timely completion of deliverables. Provides technical expertise in public health for planning, coordinating, and monitoring the Department’s school-based and school-linked health initiatives, including those that support youth behavioral health. Participates in relevant list-serves, collaboratives, and workgroups to communicates information on national best practices, webinars, and other resources, as appropriate. Will coordinate and facilitate school-based health center meetings and activities with various CDPH programs and external stakeholders such as the California Department of Education (CDE) and the California School Based Health Center Alliance (CSHA) where appropriate. 5% in-state travel as required.

 

The incumbent works under the direction of the Health Program Manager II, Chief, Office of School Health.
