Job Description and Duties
This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by directing the activities of a statewide Specific and General Licensing program for the regulation of radioactive material used in scientific, industrial, and engineering applications. This position will supervise staff in the Industrial and General License Devices Unit (IGLDU).

The Senior Health Physicist (Sr. HP) is responsible for supervising the unit’s workforce consisting of a team up to six Health Physicists to help deliver results for Californians and CDPH. The Sr. HP develops the unit’s workplans, assesses the unit’s training needs and develops staff skills, and solves complex technical problems; builds collaborative relationships with stakeholders, and fosters an inclusive work environment. The Sr. HP will create an open and transparent environment to allow for team communication and promote customer service and accountability

The incumbent works under the general supervision of the Supervising Health Physicist, Radioactive Materials Licensing Section Chief.

All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200, and may be required to report to a CDPH office, when needed. Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in the job offer being rescinded.
