Overview

This role is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated researcher to contribute to the rapidly evolving field of digital health, impacting healthcare delivery and policy globally. The candidate in this role will be a core faculty member within the CGDHI, supporting a range of research studies focused on strengthening digital health globally. We seek a candidate with skilled in conducting mixed methods research and brings applied experience in conducting policy/health services research. This role involves designing, conducting, and analyzing research that informs the development, implementation, and evaluation of digital health interventions and strategies.

This is an in-person preferred position or those local to the Baltimore area. The anticipated starting date for this position is November 1st, 2024.

Key responsibilities:  

Research Design & Implementation: Develop and support research studies focusing on digital health services, including the design of research protocols, data collection methods, and analytical strategies.
Data Analysis: Conduct qualitative analyses of health data, utilizing appropriate analytical techniques to assess the impact of digital health interventions on healthcare outcomes, quality, and efficiency. Ability to make sense of quantitative data for mixed methods research.
Literature Review & Synthesis: Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to inform research questions and methodologies. Synthesize findings to identify gaps in existing knowledge and propose new research avenues.
Grant Writing: Write and submit grant proposals to secure funding for digital health research projects. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify potential funding opportunities.
Collaborative Research: Work closely with researchers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to integrate research findings into practical digital health solutions. Foster partnerships with academic, industry, and governmental organizations.
Policy & Impact Assessment: Evaluate the policy implications of research findings and contribute to developing digital health policies at local, national, and global levels.
Knowledge Translation: Disseminate research findings through publications in peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations, and stakeholder reports. Translate complex research outcomes into actionable insights for policymakers, practitioners, and the general public.
Supervision & Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior researchers, research assistants, and graduate students. Contribute to the academic environment through teaching or guest lecturing as needed.

Specific skills/qualifications needed:

PhD, DrPH, or a similar professional degree in public health, epidemiology, economics, sociology, anthropology, or a related field
Proficiency in mixed methods research and familiarity with policy analyses
Minimum two years of post-doctoral or five years of pre-doctoral experience
Experience living in and/or working in a lower-middle-income/lower-income country
Experience in conducting health services research with or without digitization

Preferred qualifications: 

Experience managing and leading research teams and external stakeholders
Experience in designing/providing technical assistance/evaluating telemedicine or other digital health programs
Experience with conducting large evidence syntheses using systematic research methods

The Center for Global Digital Health Innovation (CGDHI) is a multidisciplinary Center within the Department of International Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The Center aims to develop responsive digital health innovations and provide rigorous, evidence-based support for scaling digital technologies and advancing health equity to improve health – focusing on resource-limited settings. CGDHI focuses in the following areas: 1.) Generate an evidence base on digitization of primary health care, digitally-based research methods, and digital health technologies; 2.) Facilitate government engagement and cross-country knowledge exchange on multisectoral digital transformation and deployment of digital health innovations; 3.) Apply cross-cutting, multidisciplinary expertise of the digital health ecosystem and numerous health areas (MNCH, immunizations, reproductive health, NCDs, infectious disease, mental health, nutrition, injury prevention, etc.) to global policy and practice guidance; 4.) Develop training and capacity-building programs on digital health.
