The Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work at Florida International University is ranked No. 36 among all public universities in the United States, according to US News & World Report. The Department of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention in the Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work (RSCPHSW) at Florida International University (FIU) in Miami, Florida, is accepting applications for the position of Department Chair as an Associate/Full Professor.

Stempel College seeks a dynamic leader to advance FIU’s vision of being Worlds Ahead in teaching, research and service. The Chair will provide leadership to encourage and enable faculty members, post-doctoral fellows, and PhD students to compete successfully for extramural research funding in collaboration with other units and investigators within and outside of Stempel College. The department currently offers multiple degrees; Master of Public Health in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention; Master of Public Health focused in Maternal Child Health; Ph.D. in Public Health focused in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention; PhD in Public Health focused in Health Disparities. Candidates with broad experience in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention and expertise in chronic conditions and disease, obesity, substance use, and/or mental health are preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required qualifications include doctoral degree in social and/or behavioral sciences, public health or related-discipline and effective interpersonal and communication skills with diverse populations. As appropriate for rank, a track record of collaborative research and peer-reviewed publications, demonstrated ability to obtain research grants and effective teaching in the relevant discipline are also required. Competitive applicants should have a strong, extramurally funded research program in place as Principal Investigator. Previous administrative experience is preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Candidate will primarily be responsible for collaborative department leadership, administering the budget, coordinating teaching assignments, and evaluating department faculty and staff. The candidate is also expected to engage in extramurally funded research, teach and advise graduate students, mentor faculty, and serve on dissertation committees.
