Responsibilities
Health Research, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Research Scientist to work within the Wadsworth Center. https://www.wadsworth.org/. The Assistant Research Scientist will join a highly interactive team in the Newborn Screening Program at the Wadsworth Center, assisting in validating and setting up a Liquid Chromatography-tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) assay for the detection of Metachromatic Leukodystrophy, rolling out the assay in a newborn screening setting and performing day to day screening. The incumbent will test using an LC-MS/MS screening assay. The incumbent will be part of a team serving the primary mission of the New York State Newborn Screening Program, which is to identify newborns with health conditions so that they may receive timely evaluation and treatment. https://www.wadsworth.org/programs/newborn.
This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Center’s mission in the New York State Department of Health’s efforts to protect and promote the health of New York’s citizens. Come be a part of Science in the Pursuit of Health.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology, and one year of research experience; OR a Master’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a clinical testing environment; experience performing Mass Spectrometry assay; experience testing samples in high-throughput format; coursework or experience in biochemistry.
Conditions of Employment
Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will not be available.
Exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position. Therefore, the incumbent in this position may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment.
