Responsibilities

The Health Education Media Specialist III will work within the Public Affairs Group (PAG) in support of Office of Public Health (OPH), New York State Department of Health, and will coordinate, plan, and evaluate mass media and/or community outreach health education and promotion campaigns for specific target audiences on various health issues; plan and negotiate the purchase of advertising time and space of all media; provide technical guidance to subordinate staff; and lead and assess formative market research, as well as evaluation of health education and promotion materials, approaches and techniques. The incumbent will also provide guidance to OPH, department staff and local health officials on the application of mass media and community outreach approaches to public health issues, problems and/or needs, and serve as liaison with state agencies, and public and private groups involved in health education and promotion; and other appropriate related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years of providing health education and/or developing health promotion materials/media; OR an associate degree in a related field and five years of such experience; OR seven years of such experience. A master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of such experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to communicate difficult technical language in a clear easy to understand manner.
Demonstrated experience managing multiple priorities within tight timeframes
Demonstrated experience working across diverse teams. Demonstrated experience identifying target audiences and developing formative research to inform outreach
Demonstrated project management skills.
Demonstrated experience editing, and technical writing skills.
Demonstrated experience using Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams
Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel, up to 25% of the time, may be required.

The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire. Telecommuting will be available.

This position may require occasional work on weekends, after-hours, and holidays.
