Responsibilities

Health Research, Inc. is seeking an Hourly Project Assistant II to join the NYSDOH the Bureau of Water Supply Protection, New York City Watershed Section. The incumbent will assist the Bureau of Water Supply with data analysis activities related to the New York City drinking water distribution system and the occurrence of Legionella in built environments.
Analyze NYC drinking water distribution system data and corresponding healthcare facility legionellosis data using statistical approaches including R and SAS.  Assist in summarizing data analysis results into tables and figures  Assist in preparing literature reviews.  Assist in drafting final reports, publications and presentations.

This position is part of the Pathways to Public Health Internship Program. This position will last approximately 10 weeks from 6/2/2025 to 8/8/2025.  It is made available through funding from the Center for Disease Control’s Public Health Infrastructure Grant to expand opportunities to strengthen career pathways to public health by bringing together students of all disciplines and academic levels with public health professionals to create a space of exploration, learning, and development.

Minimum Qualifications

Currently or within the past six months enrolled in a workforce training program or institution of higher education pursuing a degree or certificate program related to epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, data analysis, health informatics, or environmental health sciences.

Preferred Qualifications

Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, data analysis, health informatics, environmental health sciences, or related field. Familiarity with the analysis of public health data using statistical software such as SAS and R. Experience reporting statistical output into tables, reports and presentations. Demonstrated ability to review and synthesize scientific literature.  Knowledge of the science of drinking water (chemistry, biology, engineering) and drinking water regulations.

Conditions of Employment
Hourly, grant funded position expected to last through 08/8/2025. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel, up to 10% of the time, will be required.

The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire. Telecommuting will be available.
