Overview
Responsibilities
The Program Assistant will communicate with regional laboratories and epidemiology staff and healthcare facilities, maintain supply inventories, track shipments, and assist with compiling reports. The incumbent will also assist with responding to requests for colonization screenings to assess infection control by answering phone calls and utilizing a clinical information management system (LIMs system).
The Program Assistant will provide administrative and laboratory support to the Wadsworth Center Northeast Antibiotic Resistance Laboratory Network. The incumbent will perform duties to ensure coordination and implementation of project deliverables and collaboration with regional public health laboratories pertaining to bacterial antimicrobial resistance testing.
This work will ultimately contribute to improved detection of bacterial diseases and provide insight into infection control in healthcare facilities.
This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Center’s mission in the New York State Department of Health’s efforts to protect and promote the health of New York’s citizens. Come be a part of Science in the Pursuit of Health.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field; OR an Associate’s degree in a related field and two years of general office, secretarial, or administrative experience; OR four years of such experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Biological or Chemical Science with demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills and experience working in a team. Proficient Microsoft Office computer skills including spreadsheets, database, word processing with strong proofreading skills. Demonstrated, excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated, excellent oral and written communication skills for diverse audiences. At least one year experience in a laboratory or clinical setting. Experience with multitasking, and organization.
Conditions of Employment
Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.
Travel, up to 10% of the time, will be required.
