Job Description:

Responsibilities

The Research Affiliate I will join a new research laboratory dedicated to harnessing bacteriophages (viruses of bacteria) to combat global health challenges such as antibiotic resistance and phage therapy. The incumbent will work under the guidance and mentorship of the Principal Investigator (PI) as part of an interdisciplinary research team that combines bacterial genetics, biochemistry, evolution, microscopy, and bioinformatics to characterize novel phages. Opportunities include large-scale phage prospecting using Phage DisCo technology, studying how plasmid-dependent phages modulate evolution of antibiotic resistance, or exploring novel phage- and plasmid-defense mechanisms. Core responsibilities of the position include planning and conducting experiments, providing support to the Principal Investigator with student training and lab management, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and presenting findings at conferences and internal meetings. The incumbent will apply their training and broaden their technical skills towards planning and carrying out independent experiments in collaboration with the Principal Investigator.
