Responsibilities

The Senior Software Engineer/Developer will support Office of Science and Technology in Data Modernization activities specific to Immunization Information System (IIS) modernization to advance IIS toward national standardization and certification. In collaboration with staff in the Divisions of Epidemiology and Vaccine Excellence, the incumbent will develop solutions to support public health work including forward-looking use of flexible, scalable, sustainable infrastructure that leverages health Information Technology (IT) interoperability, shared services and cloud-native technology and advances the IIS toward national certification standards for technology and data quality. Further, this position will support the implementation of activities will align with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) national tools and standards, leading to IIS technology and data quality certification as endorsed by CDC.  The incumbent will develop solutions to deliver personal and family immunization records in NYS to consumers, schools, local health departments and other public health partners.  Other grant related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or Information Technology and four years computer programming, database design/development, or systems analysis experience; OR an Associate’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or Information Technology and six years of such experience; OR eight years of such experience.  A Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or Information Technology may substitute for one year of experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications

At least four years of experience using Java, Spring, AngularJS, and REST web services. At least four years of experience programming Java applications from specifications expressed by use cases, class diagrams, interaction diagrams and sequence diagrams. At least four years of experience with SQL and Oracle databases. Experience with database object creation and management. At least four years of experience integrating applications using web services. Experience with public health or healthcare data systems.

 

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel, up to 10% of the time, will be required.

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.

This position requires occasional work on weekends, after-hours, and holidays.
