Responsibilities
The Hourly Data Analyst II will assist the Central New York Regional Epidemiology Team in enteric disease surveillance and analysis throughout the fourteen-county region. Duties will include participation in a multi-team/multi-program collaborative environment including but not limited to learning and utilizing data applications on the New York State Department of Health’s Health Commerce System (HCS), communicating data outcomes through webinars or email to other Regional Office peers and/or other public health partners, explore emerging public health issues that may impact enteric disease rates (i.e.-health/social equity), assisting with disease case investigations as needed based on LHD need and/or outbreak status and other communicable disease tasks as necessary.
Enteric diseases may include campylobacter, cryptosporidium, cyclosporas, giardia, and salmonella. This position offers opportunities to listen in on the New York State Communicable Disease Call, Enteric Office Hours call, and many other educational /training opportunities.
This position is part of the Pathways to Public Health Internship Program. This position will last approximately 10 weeks from 6/2/2025 to 8/8/2025. It is made available through funding from the Center for Disease Control’s Public Health Infrastructure Grant to expand opportunities to strengthen career pathways to public health by bringing together students of all disciplines and academic levels with public health professionals to create a space of exploration, learning, and development.
Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a public health, statistics, biology, or epidemiology major or a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with Microsoft Office. Knowledge of data analysis and data management using SAS or Excel. Experience with foodborne illness investigations. Experience with public health data management systems. Experience with GIS Mapping Software (i.e. Esri, ArcGIS).
Conditions of Employment
Hourly, grant funded position expected to last through 08/8/2025. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Travel, up to 10% of the time, will be required.
The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire. Telecommuting will be available.
