Program Director/Open Rank Professor – Environmental Health, Climate, and Sustainability

We seek candidates with expertise or prior experience in program administration, research and teaching. We are especially interested in candidates with expertise in climate change science and modeling; analysis of climate impacts, vulnerability and justice; and development of planning tools to facilitate climate resilience, adaptation and sustainability. Other areas of interest include: community-engaged research; disaster preparedness, response and recovery; and/or geographic information systems and environmental data analysis. Experience with issues within Louisiana preferred.

Applicants must have a doctorate degree. Preferred candidates will have a doctorate degree in environmental science or other natural science degree as it relates to climate change; or environmental and/or public health. Evidence of extramural research funding and publications must be commensurate with years of professional experience. We expect our faculty to build an externally funded research program, publish in leading journals, and be committed to advancing health equity and to impacting public and population health. As minimum qualifications for consideration, applicants will have evidence of or strong potential for establishing an independent, extramurally funded research program, a demonstrated interest in teaching, and a commitment to public health. Candidates will be responsible for advising and mentoring students and junior faculty scholars.

The School of Public Health (SPH) is located on the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-New Orleans (LSUHSC-NO) campus which is downtown in the medical district of the metropolitan area. LSUHSC-NO is a part of the Louisiana State University (LSU) System. The Environmental Health, Climate and Sustainability (EHCS) Program. is one of four programs in the SPH that have been newly reorganized with respect to academic and research focus. The SPH has a national reputation for cancer research, community-engaged research and public heath practice, and for promoting health equity. The EHCS Program offers a BS degree, MPH degree, and several dual degree tracks, including MD/MPH, MSW/MPH, and DVM/MPH. Program faculty also work with PhD doctoral students in the Biostatistics and Data Sciences, Epidemiology and Population Health, and Community Health Sciences and Policy Programs.
