Main Purpose of Job
The Maryland Department of Health seeks a strategic leader to serve as the Director of the Prevention and Health Promotion Administration (PHPA). The Director will build on the success of PHPA to improve the health of Marylanders.

The PHPA Director provides leadership and oversight of PHPA’s $500 million budget, over 500 staff positions, and leads policy development and strategic planning across the administration. PHPA units include the Maternal and Child Health Bureau; the Environmental Health Bureau; the Cancer and Chronic Disease Bureau; the Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Outbreak Response Bureau; the Infectious Disease Prevention and Health Services Bureau; PHPA’s Office of Budget and Finance, Operations, and Office of Support Services. The position reports to and works in close collaboration with the Deputy Secretary of Public Health Services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree from and accredited college or university, 8 years of experience in health services, including at least 4 years of supervisory or managerial experience.

A master’s degree will substitute for 2 years of health services experience.  Additional experience in health services will substitute for the bachelor’s degree at the rate of 30 credit hours for 1 year of experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred candidates should possess the following:

Experience with public health leadership;
Experience leading, managing and inspiring teams; and,
Demonstrated commitment to operational excellence.
