Overview
The New Hanover County Health Department is seeking a part-time Dental Assistant (32 hours/week) to assist a dentist with the provision of dental care and education to children throughout New Hanover and Brunswick County Schools, on a mobile dental unit.
Duties include:
Polishing teeth.
Applying sealants.
Taking bitewing and panoramic x-rays.
Reinforcing dentist’s instructions to children and families.
Providing basic oral hygiene education.
Explaining treatment plans.
Four-handed dental assisting during restorative appointments to include restorations, stainless steel crowns, space maintainers and extractions.
Coordination of schedules
Sharing administrative roles including, but not limited to, answering phone, scheduling and confirming appointments, registering patients in electronic medical record; check-in/check-out, verifying benefits, maintaining inventory and supplies.
Daily and weekly cleaning on the mobile dental unit.
Emergency shelter duty roles, when applicable.
