Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation’s (PIRE) Chapel Hill, NC Center is seeking senior level investigators and evaluators to join our team. This opportunity is open to career investigators and evaluators who wish to grow their research program while enhancing PIRE’s growing portfolio, including research in areas such as: health, mental health, and substance use; child welfare; education; criminal justice; public policy; state, county, and community partnerships and, program evaluation. For full-time researchers and evaluators, we have excellent health coverage, a retirement plan and flexible work arrangements available to support our nationally recognized institution of independent scientists.

PIRE is an entrepreneurial and self-funded research organization. Independence and freedom as a scientist come with the responsibility of seeking and securing one’s own funding. Please share your resume along with a brief description of your research interest and potential funders.

Successful applicants will be expected to pursue their own research while collaborating with other PIRE scientists in areas of mutual interest.  PIRE is prepared to assist researchers submit applications with funding assistance, administrative support, and collaborative scientific support. Employment is contingent upon successful awards.

This opportunity is open to senior level investigators – and/or a small team of investigators- who are positioned to substantially contribute to PIRE’s alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and health policy portfolio or other research agenda by securing and/or bringing funding opportunities.

Specifically, we invite letters of inquiry from senior level investigators who have:

Current or recent funding from NIH, CDC, SAMHSA, states, communities, foundations, and/or other agencies and entities that fund scientific research and evaluation,
A track record of relevant publications in high impact journals, and
Strong skills in research collaboration and project management.
PIRE has a strong commitment to research dissemination and moving science to practice and practice to science. The implementation of our work is demonstrated in peer-reviewed journal articles, reports for government and lay audiences and professional presentations.

Job Requirements

Advanced degree (e.g., M.D., Ph.D., J.D.) or equivalent experience
Five years of professional experience
Peer-reviewed publications
Demonstrated experience securing and managing funded grants or contracts
