Overview

PIRE is looking for an outgoing, personable, and highly organized individual to fill this Research Associate I position who will help coordinate the implementation of research and evaluation activities for TakeCare, a Whole Health and Well-Being program being piloted in Durham County, NC. This position has a pay range of $54,000-$58,000 per year with an 80%-100% FTE.

This position will support the Principal Investigator and Senior Project Staff with the development of reports, presentations, and manuscripts. Responsibilities will include quantitative and qualitative data collection, data management, data analysis, IRB applications, and participant recruitment and retention within established project timelines and in accordance with project procedures and protocols.

Ideal applicants will be very familiar with Durham County organizations, communities, and cultures across the county. Applicants would be expected to help recruit, engage, and help collect qualitative and quantitative data from organizations that provide services to minority and/or “hard-to-reach” populations, so applicants should be comfortable with engaging with people from all walks of life in a non-judgmental or stigmatizing way. Applicants should be able to think on their feet, feel comfortable asking questions as needed, take guidance and incorporate feedback well, and take initiative when required. Experience coordinating data collection efforts and is desired.

Applicants must be able to synthesize large amounts of information coherently, as well as have excellent verbal/written communication, organization, and presentation skills. Applicants are required to submit a cover letter, resume/CV, and writing sample.

This benefit-eligible position will be based in Durham, NC, and formally a part of PIRE’s Louisville Center. There is no relocation assistance available for this role.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 1 – 2 years training and experience in applied research projects
  • Excellent communication skills – phone skills, writing skills; clear and consistent communication
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Working Knowledge Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, & PowerPoint
  • Working Knowledge of SPSS
  • Overall coordination of internal and external project communications and meetings, including scheduling meetings, development of meeting agendas, detailed-notetaking, and further follow up as necessary, as well as drafting progress reports and monitoring achievement of project milestones.
  • Maintain project files on shared drives, SharePoint and MS Teams
  • Ability to work independently and implement several simultaneous project activities
  • Previous experience providing supervision of research tasks, interviewers or field staff during the data collection process is highly desirable.

PREFERENCE GIVEN TO APPLICANTS WITH:

  • Experience living in and/or working in Durham County, NC
  • Previous or current involvement in community organizing, preferably in Durham, NC
  • Previous project coordination/research experience
  • Transportation, a valid driver’s license and access to licensed, insured, and reliable personal transportation for required travel within Durham. Travel is estimated to be 5-10% of working time.

SOME PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Support and/or lead: 

  • IRB applications
  • Instrument development
  • Creation of online instruments through software such as Survey Monkey, Qualtrics Alchemer, and REDCap
  • Data entry, cleaning, and analysis
  • Report development, including templates, tables, and summaries of results
  • Manage project deadlines and deliverables. Assist with qualitative and quantitative data collection and monitoring from community events, community facilitators, and group program participants. Work closely with project leadership and team members to ensure deliverables are met on time, and are of good quality, that data are entered in a timely manner and that continuous quality improvement occurs, etc.
