DENTAL ASSISTANT (80% FTE)

Salary Range: $28,340-$44,792.80
Purpose of Position: The Dental Assistant will aid in gathering patient information and health background, providing patient care and support, taking X-rays of patient’s teeth and processing results, preparing the work area for procedures, assisting dentist by handing them instruments and equipment, taking notes when needed, comfortable working with children and special needs children, educating patients on good oral hygiene habits, performing coronal polishing, sealant application, fluoride application, and topical anesthetic application as needed, directing patients and maintaining schedule, stocking treatment areas and monitoring inventory.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Considerable knowledge of dental equipment, instruments, and procedures. Considerable knowledge of dental office business procedures. Considerable knowledge of preparation methods and dental materials. Ability to maintain records, inventories, and patient histories. Ability to deal tactfully with patients. Ability to observe, evaluate, and report required information pertaining to a dental or dental assistant student. Ability to orient dental and dental assistant students, other health care personnel, and patients.
Minimum Education and Experience: Completion of a dental assistant program from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of on-the-job training as a dental assistant and required x-ray training when needed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid N.C. Driver’s License, proof of measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella immunity.
