Title: Communications and Marketing Specialist

FUNCTION/POSITION SUMMARY:

The Communications and Marketing Specialist, in collaboration with the NCTSTA team and subject matter experts, will support the development and execution of tailored communication strategies to engage the public health workforce across the United States and its territories. This position will spearhead health communication campaigns, create compelling print and digital marketing materials, and ensure compliance with 508 accessibility standards, contributing to our mission of strengthening and enhancing the capacities and effectiveness of the public health workforce.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.     Develop and execute communication plans.

·       Develops and executes comprehensive communication plans to promote training programs, resources, and initiatives aimed at strengthening the skills of the public health service providers and HIV prevention workforce.

·       Collaborates with subject matter experts to translate complex public health concepts into clear, engaging content tailored to diverse audiences.

·       Conducts market research and audience analyses to identify trends, preferences, and needs within the public health community, informing communication strategies and content development.

 

2.     Create marketing materials.

·       Creates compelling marketing materials, including brochures, newsletters, infographics, and presentations, adhering to 508-compliance standards to ensure accessibility for all audiences.

·       Manages digital communication channels, including website content, social media platforms, email campaigns, and online advertising, to drive awareness and participation in training opportunities.

 

3.     Monitor, analyze, and coordinate with external partners, stakeholders, and vendors.

·       Monitors and analyzes communication metrics and feedback to evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns and initiatives, making data-driven recommendations for optimization.

·       Serves as a liaison with external partners, stakeholders, and vendors to coordinate promotional activities, media relations, and collaborative projects.

·       Stays current on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements related to health communication, marketing, and accessibility standards.

·       Provides training and support to internal staff and external partners on communication tools, techniques, and compliance guidelines.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

·         Out-of-state travel within the United States (estimated 20% of the time or 3-4 trips annually) and a valid U.S. driver’s license.

·         Proven project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively.

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex information into clear, persuasive messages for diverse audiences.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

These minimum qualifications establish the education, training and experience required for employment in this position. Please note that additional qualifications (i.e., related certifications) may be considered.

1.      Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

2.      Three (3) years of work experience implementing evidence-based strategies for communications and marketing campaigns, preferably within a health related sector.

 

SUBSTITUTIONS:

·         Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

·         Master’s degree in Health Communication, Public Health, Marketing, Public Relations or related discipline may substitute for 1 year of experience.

·         One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). Any overtime hours you work above 40 hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.
