The Department of Kinesiology at Rice University in Houston, TX invites applications for a full-time faculty member at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor in Health Sciences, commencing July 1, 2024. We seek candidates who can teach undergraduate courses in Epidemiology, Environmental Health, Health Management/Policy, or core requirements in the Health Sciences curriculum. A doctorate degree in public health or a related field is required (conferred by May 2024), as is a strong track record of teaching at the undergraduate level. Rank of Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor will be determined by candidate qualifications and experience. Faculty in Lecturer appointments are expected to foster excellence in teaching and advising students. In addition to a record of teaching excellence, faculty in Rice’s Teaching Professor ranks are expected to be pedagogical leaders in their departments. Candidates seeking the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor should also have interest and experience in the application and dissemination of pedagogical best practice, including pedagogical innovation, curricular issues, and/or public health education research.

This is a non-tenure-track, full-time, 9-month academic calendar position, with an initial 2-year appointment and the possibility of extension and promotion. Opportunities to teach summer courses are available for additional compensation, as well as opportunities to develop innovative teaching methods and pursue independent research or collaborations in and out of the university.

To apply, please submit: (1) a cover letter; (2) a curriculum vitae; (3) a teaching statement (3 pages max); and (4) contact information for at least three professional references. Letters of recommendation will be requested from a subset of candidates following initial review. Applications that are received by January 31st, 2024 will receive full consideration, but we will continue reviewing applications until the position is filled.
