Overview
The State of Connecticut, Department of Public Health (DPH) is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Public Health Section Chief within the Practitioner Licensing and Investigations Section of the Healthcare Quality and Safety Branch (HQSB).
The HQSB is a branch of the Connecticut Department of Public Health which includes the Facility Licensing and Investigations Section (FLIS), Practitioner Licensing and Investigations Section (PLIS), and the Office of Emergency Medical Services. Together these units oversee all healthcare licensing activities statewide, including more than 1,800 healthcare facilities and nearly a quarter-million health practitioners and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) professionals. Your leadership will directly support the safety and integrity of Connecticut’s healthcare system.
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:
- Location: 410 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, CT
- Work Schedule: Typically Monday – Friday
- Work Shift: Full-time, First Shift
- Work Hours: 40 hours per week

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
- Lead and manage the Practitioner Licensing and Investigations Section, overseeing approximately 55 professional and support staff.
- Direct licensing operations for health practitioners regulated by DPH, ensuring consistent, accurate, and timely processing.
- Oversee the investigation of complaints involving licensed healthcare professionals to protect patient safety and uphold professional standards.
- Collaborate with other HQSB units, including FLIS and the Office of Emergency Medical Services, to support effective statewide healthcare licensing oversight.
- Provide strategic leadership and operational guidance to strengthen program performance, regulatory compliance, and workforce quality across the healthcare system.
