THE ORGANIZATION

Tanenbaum promotes justice and builds respect for religious difference by transforming individuals and institutions to reduce prejudice, hatred, and violence.

As a secular and non-sectarian non-profit, Tanenbaum works to promote religious peacebuilders who help counter extremism and violence in armed conflicts, and tackles religious bullying of students, harassment in workplaces, and disparate health treatment for people based on their beliefs.

 

THE PROGRAM

Tanenbaum’s Health Care program focuses on the religious dimension of cultural competence in health care. We work directly with health care organizations to train health care providers to understand how cultural competence and recognizing religion-based health decisions results in better patient-centered care. Our ultimate goal is to empower and equip health care professionals to provide religio-culturally competent care to patients of all religions and none.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is an opportunity for a motivated, currently enrolled student to help support a growing program through a supervised research project. The successful candidate will report to the Senior Health Care Associate and work 10-20 hours weekly. Primary responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

·              Conducting specialized research on mutually agreed upon topics concerning religion and health care.

·              Updating and refreshing existing Health Care resources with current data and sources.

·              Working with the Health Care team to develop additional ideas for disseminating Tanenbaum materials and resources.

·              Supporting program capacity by managing files, archives, and materials.

·              Serving as a member of the program team, participating in weekly meetings.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS

·              Commitment to the mission and goals of Tanenbaum

·              Academic background and/or experience in religion/religious studies, health care, legal studies, or cross-cultural communication

·              Strong writing, research, and citation skills

·              Experience navigating academic databases

·              Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

·              Computer skills, including Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and general internet research

·              Organized

·              Ability to meet deadlines

·              Sense of humor

 

All work produced for Tanenbaum through this internship is the work product of Tanenbaum and may not be used by the Intern outside of Tanenbaum-authorized activities.

 

COMPENSATION AND ACADEMIC CREDIT

This is an unpaid internship structured for academic credit or university-funded stipends.  Tanenbaum will work with you and your school so that you can receive academic credit and/or university-funded stipends for the internship. Candidates should check with their school to confirm eligibility before applying.
