Overview
This Syndromic Surveillance Regional Onboarding Coordinator position within the Center for Infectious Diseases (CID), Office of Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response (OIDPR), supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by supporting the implementation, utilization, maintenance, and operation of the California statewide syndromic surveillance program. The statewide syndromic surveillance program facilitates timely and broad monitoring of population health, ultimately leading to more rapid and targeted disease control and prevention strategies as well as increased situational awareness for public health response.
The Syndromic Surveillance Regional Onboarding Coordinator position within the Center for Infectious Diseases (CID), Office of Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response (OIDPR), supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by supporting the implementation, utilization, maintenance, and operation of the California statewide syndromic surveillance program (CalSyS). This program facilitates timely and broad monitoring of population health, ultimately leading to more rapid and targeted disease control and prevention strategies as well as increased situational awareness for public health response.
Under the direction of the Health Program Manager I of the Program, Onboarding, and Policy Unit within the Syndromic Surveillance Section, the Health Program Specialist I (HPS I) is responsible for providing complex and technical health program administrative work in support of CDPH’s cross-cutting effort to successfully implement and maintain a statewide program that will utilize syndromic surveillance data for public health decision-making. The HPS I’s primary role is to serve as a regional programmatic coordinator for local health jurisdictions (LHJs) related to their access to and utilization of the California state site within the National Syndromic Surveillance Program’s (NSSP’s) BioSense/ESSENCE platform. In this role, the HPS I will be the primary point of contact for customer service, communications, technical assistance, and support for LHJs and hospital facilities within the region(s) for which they are responsible, including helping with facility recruitment and onboarding. The HPS I serves as a liaison between CalSyS, LHJs, hospital facilities, CDPH programs, and the NSSP team. The HPS I performs a variety of health program tasks related to day-to-day planning, consultation, evaluation, and coordination of activities and support.
