The California Department of Public Health is hiring a Digital Media and School Behavioral Health Response Lead – Health Program Specialist II (HPS II) within our Center for Healthy Communities (CHC).

The Office of School Health (OSH) supports efforts to advance health, wellness, and safe in-person instruction for California’s 7.5 million students and staff in the state’s 10,000 Transitional Kindergarten-12th grade schools. The OSH develops and disseminates scientific guidance and policies; supports school-based health centers; and facilitates collaboration between state and local education and health officials.

About the Role:
The HPS II, will act as the Digital Media and School Behavioral Health Response Lead, overseeing the development of smartphone and social media safety guidelines and other behavioral health prevention curriculum.
The HPS II will also work closely with Staff Services Manager I (specialist) within the CDPH Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health (MCAH) division, Program specialists in the Office of School Health (OSH), Researchers and mental and behavioral health leaders.
A principal role of this position is to arrange and coordinate behavioral health strategies and recommendations for children, youth, and families around the use of digital technology in a safe manner, and other developing concerns in school.
Responsibilities:
Provides leadership, centered on equity, youth voice, and community input.
Serves as a lead coordinator and subject matter expert on the health effects of social media and digital technology on children and youth.
Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to develop digital technology and population-based behavioral health prevention curricula and communications materials.
Develops and launches the strategic direction of the initiative and tracks priorities, activities, and ensures timely completion of projects.
Regularly monitors and tracks emerging behavioral health issues among TK-12 students and school communities and develops appropriate action plans.

Ability to build and foster collaborative relationships.
Ability to interact effectively and achieve results with internal staff and external partners including academia, and local and state health departments.
Experience working with multiple levels of staff including executive management, fast paced environment with experience in handling multiple competing priorities and shifting expectations.
Experience and knowledge of behavioral health issues.
Knowledge and experience working on children and youth public health topics.
