Overview
The Research Scientist I (RS I) may perform diagnostic testing for a broad range of foodborne and waterborne bacterial agents. They maintain and test reagents for the detection of bacterial, pathogens of public health significance. The RS I works under supervision, to design, plan, validate, implement, and utilize advanced equipment, complex methods, and sophisticated software to detect, isolate, and identify microbial pathogens in a variety of clinical samples. They provide technical consultation to laboratory staff and other local, state, and federal partners.

In addition to evaluating each candidate’s relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
Desirable qualifications include the following experience:
Working in a BSL2 laboratory
Bacterial culture and identification
Testing using PCR or real-time PCR
Working in a public health or clinical laboratory
Public Health Microbiologist License
