The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is committed to effectively delivering essential Public Health services directly and/or through strong and effective Partnerships.

The Program Support Division (PSD) provides a variety of supportive services to CDPH Programs.

The CDPH’s Richmond Campus is a 29-acre property housing over 1,200 employees located in Richmond’s Marina Bay and is minutes away from the El Cerrito Del Norte and Richmond BART stations and public transit, with free shuttle service between the campus and the El Cerrito Del Norte BART station. The campus comprises of offices, state-of-the-art laboratories, and a warehouse. Free employee parking is available for employees working day shift, including free electric vehicle charging and public transit subsidy up to $65 a month.

New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or alternate range, as applicable.

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by performing a variety of skilled work in the operations, maintenance, and repair of heating, air conditioning, refrigeration systems, ventilation, lighting, power, water, water treatment, and other mechanical systems in support of the CDPH, Richmond Campus. The Stationary Engineer may instruct or lead other Stationary Engineers, Maintenance Mechanics, Building Maintenance Workers, and Service Assistants. In addition, this position may direct contractors in support of the infrastructure and equipment repairs.

Stationary Engineers are provided with uniforms and free laundering.

This classification is eligible for a recruitment and retention pay differential for the Greater Bay Area at 5% above the base rate for each qualifying pay period.

Alternate work schedules may be available.

In addition to evaluating each candidate’s relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Demonstrate mechanical ability

• Follow oral and written directions

• Lay out work for others and direct them in this work

• The ability to analyze situations accurately and take effective action

• EPA Section 608 Technician Certification Universal / refrigerant certification
