The California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) Office of Health Equity (OHE) promotes equitable social, economic, and environmental conditions to achieve optimal health, mental health, and well-being for all.
OHE’s Climate Change and Health Equity (CCHE) Branch embeds health and equity in California climate planning and policy and embeds climate change and equity in public health planning and policy. The CCHE Branch works across agencies to integrate racial and health equity into California’s climate change policies, plans, and investments; increases the capacity of health departments, Tribes, and communities to address climate change and health equity; and provides data, research, and tools to identify, prevent, and reduce the health effects of climate change and maximize the health and racial equity benefits of climate action.

The HPS II works under the direction of the Health Program Manager II (HPM II), in the Climate Change and Health Equity Section in the Office of Health Equity (OHE), within CDPH. The HPS II, in coordination with the HPM II and the Health Program Manager III (HPM III) of the Climate Change and Health Equity Branch, supports the planning, coordination, and facilitation of all cross-departmental efforts related to climate change and health at CDPH. The HPS II leads intradepartmental activities to build a responsive, coordinated and equity-focused climate change and health infrastructure for CDPH; establishes and strengthens relationships and partnerships between CDPH program staff working on cross-cutting climate change and health issues; and brings together CDPH staff to collaborate on intradepartmental climate change and health projects that produce actionable, evidence-based public health products. The HPS II leads the development and ongoing facilitation of a Cross-CDPH Climate Change and Health Working Group and sub-groups. The HPS II is a highly skilled technical program consultant expected to provide coordination of activities including but not limited to program planning, implementation, and evaluation; communications; partner engagement; interpretation of research and data; training; and contract and budget management.

This position may be eligible for telework up to three (3) days per week and is required to report in-person to the designated headquarters office location a minimum of two (2) days per week. The amount of telework permitted is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change, consistent with CDPH’s Telework Program. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200. Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in the job offer being rescinded.

Up to 5% travel may be required for the position.
