The Chronic Disease Control Branch in the California Department of Public Health supports evidence-based intervention programs that promote healthy behaviors, healthy communities, and improve the prevention, diagnosis, and management of chronic disease. Chronic disease prevention aims to ensure a lifetime of wellness for all.
This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by performing programmatic for the California Alzheimer’s Disease Program (ADP) within the Chronic Disease Control Branch (CDCB).
The Health Program Specialist I (HPS I) functions as a highly skilled, technical program consultant in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRDs) public health policy and program planning, assessment, and implementation. The incumbent provides guidance and technical assistance to CDCB program staff’ contractors and grantees; external partners; and other interest holders on ADRD issues. The incumbent assists with developing issue memorandums, bill analyses, budget change proposals, finance letters, and funding proposals. The Health Program Specialist I (HPS I) works under the direction of the Health Program Manager II, Alzheimer’s Disease Section Manager.

Excellent oral communication and writing skills.
Excellent virtual platform skills for meetings, webinars, document sharing, etc.
State contract management, budget, and accounting procedures.
Prioritizing and anticipating program needs and meeting deadlines.
Chronic disease prevention and management evidence-based practices, including team-based care.
Experience in:
Effective and professional interactions with internal and external partners.
Problem solving and multi-tasking in fast-paced environment.
Working with a high degree of independence as well as part of a team.
Federal grant requirements.
Knowledge of:
Health equity, cultural humility, and social drivers of health.
Public health program design, development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
State contract development and management.
